Character's canon: Pluto by Urasawa Naoki (manga, primary source), based on Tetsuwan Atom/Astro Boy by Osamu Tezuka (manga), Tetsuwan Atom/Astro Boy (2003 anime)
Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character: Atom generally looks and acts like a bright, cheerful little kid. He desperately wants the latest, coolest toys, he’ll pick up little snails off the sidewalk to save them from the rain, and he loves ice cream. He cares deeply about his friends and family, including his little sister, Uran, and Professor Ochanomizu, the robotics professor who took him in after he was initially abandoned by his creator. Part of this is because he’s designed to closely mimic the behavior of humans, particularly little boys. But part of it is because he’s done it so long, he’s started to understand and feel human emotion. And he was, of course, designed as a replacement for an actual human boy.
Beneath that friendly exterior, however, Atom harbors a lot of guilt. In the 39th Central Asian War in Persia, several of his friends were ordered to face and kill entire armies of their fellow robots. Atom was not, mainly because he was a celebrity and looked like a little human boy. So while other robots who ended up in the war became, say, utterly broken in spirit, afflicted with PTSD, and compelled to wash their hands for ten hours at a time, Atom was assigned to be an “Ambassador of Peace” at the victory parade towards the end of the conflict. Worse, the cause of the war, Persia’s supposed construction of an army of robots that could march on and destroy other nearby nations, was never conclusively proven. In fact, it might have all been a ruse the country of Thracia used to crush a rising country that might have become a threat to its own power.
For those like the robot detective Gesicht, who know who he is and what he can do, Atom is extremely up-front about himself: he’ll readily admit exactly what he does and doesn’t understand about human emotion, he’ll cop to his role in the war (or lack thereof), and he’s also very frank with his questions. For everyone else, he’s a cute little robot kid who happens to be superpowered. Atom is generally an honest person, but lies several times in the series to spare someone's feelings, behavior that is unusual for a robot.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
A scientist named Dr. Tenma originally created Atom to replace his dead son, Tobio. But after he activated his new creation, Tenma decided Atom was an unacceptable replacement -- Atom was obedient and loving, never acting out as Tobio had, even in the face of neglect. So Tenma jumped ship on his position at the Ministry of Science. And sold Atom to a circus.
Atom was eventually rescued by Professor Ochanomizu, the new head of the Ministry of Science, who treated Atom like his own son, gave him a place to stay, and even made a robot family for him. Through many battles, Atom became something of an icon in Japan as one of the world’s seven strongest robots, alongside Gesicht, Epsilon, Brando, Hercules, Montblanc, and North No. 2, despite looking and acting by all accounts like a little human boy.
After the 39th Central Asian War, Atom eventually ended up looking into a high-profile murder case to help the robotic Europol inspector, Gesicht. The murderer, a mysterious figure called “Pluto”, began picking off not only the seven strongest robots in the world, but their creators and key human figures in robot rights and research. Each of those targeted had one thing in common: they had all had a hand in the Bora survey team that had investigated Persia’s alleged weapons program during the war, up to and including Atom and Professor Ochanomizu.
Atom fought Pluto to put an end to the murder case and defend Ochanomizu’s family from attack, but in the process, he was damaged almost beyond repair. While the professor attempted to save him, it was clear that he didn’t possess the knowledge and skill required to do so, and Atom was officially declared dead, along with the destroyed robots North No.2, Montblanc, and Brando.
Hercules, Gesicht, and even Epsilon, who had refused to fight in the war at all, were all either eventually killed by Pluto or the forces manipulating Pluto, and it was only when Dr. Tenma reappeared at the Ministry of Science to operate on Atom that he even had a chance of being reactivated. Even with Tenma's efforts, however, Atom's AI was unable to reemerge from the chaotic state Pluto's attack had left it in, consuming itself with simultaneously mimicking millions of different human personalities as a side effect of the assault. At least until Tenma gave Atom a chip containing Gesicht’s memories, allowing his robotic brain to make sense of what had happened.
Gesicht had unraveled the case before his death: who Pluto was, why he became a murderer, and the real reason behind the 39th Central Asian War. Gesicht had also finally remembered something that his own government had attempted to wipe clean from his memory: he had killed a human being, something that was supposed to be expressly forbidden in the programming of every single robot in the world. Years ago, an anti-robot extremist had brutally murdered a series of robot children, including Gesicht’s son. Driven by hatred, Gesicht had in turn killed the murderer with an enormously destructive zeronium shell, leaving the extremist's body practically unrecognizable even to his closest family.
Gesicht's powerful emotional experience helped Atom resolve his confusion and regain consciousness. He left once again to face off against Pluto, but ended up enlisting Pluto’s help instead, in order to destroy a powerful anti-proton bomb buried deep in a volcano that threatened to send a cloud of ash that would blot out the sun over Earth -- a disaster that would have killed off huge swaths of the human population. Pluto managed to stop the bomb from going off at the cost of his own life.

Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
“It uses my thoughts?”
In other words, he could imagine whatever he wanted and it'd show up? He stuck out his tongue in concentration, imagining the new remote control space saucer he'd seen on TV, then grinned as it appeared, floating a little unsteadily in the air in front of him. "All right!" He manipulated its dials, sending it wobbling across the room, lights flashing. It made the coolest noises ever.
These things were so popular on Earth, it took forever to get one, and you couldn't just buy them at a store -- they were all out, and unless you had connections: "Or, like, signed up for a waiting list or something," he said aloud, without thinking -- you were out of luck.
This model even came with a built in abduction beam. Okay, it was just an ordinary tractor beam sort of deal and the object you “abducted” was just stored in a small compartment inside the toy, but—
Atom began looking around for something light enough to abduct. A quick search of his pockets revealed a couple pieces of candy, a rock with weird patterns on it, and a plastic soldier.
“Perfect!”

If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Atom is basically a little robot Superman. He can make intercontinental flights using the rocket boosters in his legs, lift and throw giant robots with little effort, tunnel through the earth's crust, operate underwater and in space, survive in magma, etc. Atom has superhuman sight and hearing. He can also fire energy beams from his index fingers or arm.
...and butt. He has guns in his butt.
Atom has some typical robot abilities, like being able to communicate in machine language with other robots, receive/send audio and visual communications, and the ability to scan for things in his environment (he is shown locating pieces of evidence through the rubble of a destroyed house with this scanning ability). Atom can also access the memories of other compatible robots by inserting their memory cards into his own system. He can generally tell the difference between robotic and human individuals, but certain people (like Dr. Abullah of Persia, who 'lost most of his human body in the war') have the ability to confuse his recognition systems.
Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here):
Atom is an excellent mimic of human behavior, and it’s difficult to tell that he isn’t a real boy. He fools humans into thinking he’s a normal kid regularly (robots can usually tell that there’s something up with him, and ask). He can lie, hate, and harm humans, which are abilities only found in robots that are very human-like.
